How we started

Kithakàna Adventures

Tab & Lu Bali 2018

We know what you’re thinking, how do you even pronounce “Kithakàna”? It’s a Wënami word (a dialect of southern Lënape our Co-Founder Tabie speaks), and is pronounced “key-duck-ha-nah”. It means ‘far away land’.

It all started in 2018 when we met on a group trip to Bali. We met at the airport because our planes landed around the same time and bonded on our several hours long drive to a remote villa where we ended up being assigned bunkies.

We talked nearly every day after our trip and even traveled to other countries together. But we aren’t just travel buddies, we’ve supported each other’s goals, celebrated successes, learned from our failures, and challenged one another to be better.

Between the two of us, we’ve been traveling for over 27 years, visited over 70 countries and lived in a handful of them, participated in many group trips (some awesome, some not-so-awesome), and developed endless itineraries for family, friends, and our respective travel businesses.

When Luisa was given a really great opportunity to work with a company in Nepal, she reached out to Tabie to help her film footage and provide photography for a project. What started as a conversation about a gig ended hours later with the start of a new company.

We pooled our skillsets and experience so we can create an inclusive community so like-minded travelers could connect. Kithakàna Adventures is about exploring far away lands because everyone deserves to see the world.

Tabitha Bear

Tabitha is an Indigenous photographer and writer - she helps people meet the world one story at a time and inspires them to write their own adventure. Tab prefers road trips as a way to get to know a place, can always be found climbing trees, and has a terrible fear of flying (but that doesn't stop her!).
Japan and Iceland are her (current) favorite countries, and is the chosen human to two cats - Torpedo and Skull Crusher.
She's been traveling internationally since 2016, and will never stop. You can find her website and social accounts if you click the link below.
She can't wait to meet you on your next adventure!
